The road from European American football to the NFL can be a long one. For Maceo Beard, it now leads from a European championship with Nordic Storm and home games at Gladsaxe Stadium to the Minnesota Vikings and the biggest American football league in the world.

The 26-year-old defensive back will continue his career with the Minnesota Vikings after a season in which he played an important role on Nordic Storm’s championship team.

It is a major personal achievement for Maceo Beard, but it is also a significant moment for Nordic Storm. The signing shows that players can compete at the highest level in Europe, win a championship in the Nordics and take the next step to the NFL.

A European champion moves on

Maceo Beard joined Nordic Storm with great ambitions and a clear dream of earning an opportunity in the NFL.

On the field, he quickly demonstrated why he had previously been named Defensive Player of the Year in the European League of Football. His speed, understanding of the game and ability to read opposing quarterbacks made him a standout player in Nordic Storm’s defense.

During the 2026 season, he recorded 33 tackles, four interceptions, 116 interception return yards, one touchdown, eight pass breakups and two sacks.

One of his biggest individual highlights of the season came against Raiders Tirol, when Beard intercepted the ball and returned it 85 yards for a touchdown. In the semifinal against his former club, the Paris Musketeers, he recorded another interception as Nordic Storm won 45-6 and secured a place in the Championship Game.

The season ended in the best possible way. On August 29, Nordic Storm defeated the Munich Ravens 48-28 in Innsbruck to become the first champion of the European Football Alliance.

Now Maceo Beard will continue his journey with the Minnesota Vikings.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for Mace. He has fully earned this chance through the incredibly high level he has shown throughout the season, as well as through his leadership and his commitment to continuing to learn and develop. We are incredibly happy for him and proud that a player can help Nordic Storm win a European championship and then earn an opportunity with an NFL team. It shows that the road to the NFL can also run through Gladsaxe and Nordic Storm,” says Nordic Storm General Manager Kristian Winther Gildsig.

From Paris to Gladsaxe and on to Minnesota

Maceo Beard was born in Paris and began playing American football as a teenager after many years of playing soccer and competing in track and field.

Since then, his career has taken him through several different clubs and leagues across Europe. He played for Berlin Thunder in 2022, the Helvetic Guards in 2023 and the Paris Musketeers in 2024.

In 2023, he had his major European breakthrough with the Helvetic Guards. He finished the season with eight interceptions and was named Defensive Player of the Year in the European League of Football.

In 2025, he was selected for the NFL’s International Player Pathway program. The program brings together some of the leading international talents and gives them the opportunity to develop and showcase their abilities in front of NFL scouts and coaches.

As part of his continued pursuit of his NFL dream, Maceo Beard was invited to participate in the San Francisco 49ers’ rookie minicamp on a tryout basis. The opportunity did not lead to a contract, but it allowed him to train and compete in an NFL environment.

In January 2026, he was selected by the DC Defenders in the United Football League Draft after participating in the UFL International Showcase.

Later that year, he joined Nordic Storm with a clear goal of continuing his development and proving that he belonged at the highest level. He did exactly that as one of the standout players on Nordic Storm’s championship team.

Now the Minnesota Vikings have given him his opportunity in the NFL.

A major moment for Maceo and Nordic Storm

First and foremost, this moment belongs to Maceo Beard.

His talent, determination and years of hard work have taken him to the NFL. He has travelled a long way, overcome adversity and continued to pursue his dream even though the road has not been straightforward.

But his story also says something bigger about the development of European American football and Nordic Storm’s ambitions.

Nordic Storm wants to compete for championships. The club wants to create major experiences for the fans at Gladsaxe Stadium. But the ambition is also to build an environment where some of Europe’s best players can develop and showcase their abilities on an international stage.

When a player can move from winning a European championship with Nordic Storm to signing a contract with the Minnesota Vikings, it shows that NFL teams are paying attention to the level of performance being delivered in Europe.

It also shows future players that the road to the biggest stage does not necessarily end because they are playing in Europe. It can continue from Gladsaxe.

An inspiration for European players

Maceo Beard’s story can inspire young players in Denmark, Sweden and across Europe who dream of going as far as possible in American football.

Reaching the NFL requires exceptional talent and extraordinary dedication. There are no guarantees, and very few players receive the opportunity. But Maceo Beard is proof that it is possible to be noticed and earn a chance when you perform at the highest level in Europe.

“This is, of course, first and foremost Mace’s moment. But it is also a story that can inspire players across Europe. You do not necessarily have to follow the traditional route through US college football to be noticed by the NFL. If you perform at the highest level in Europe, the door can open. Nordic Storm wants to be a club where ambitious players can develop, win championships and take the next step in their careers,” says Kristian Winther Gildsig.

At Nordic Storm, we are proud to have been part of Maceo Beard’s journey. We are grateful for the performances and leadership he delivered during our historic championship season, and we look forward to following his next chapter.

Congratulations, Maceo 🎉

From Gladsaxe to Minnesota. From Nordic Storm to the NFL.
